Dear valued customer,
We hope you and your family are safe following the severe flooding in your area.
To give you time to recover without concerns about your insurance coverage, the Illinois Insurance Commissioner has issued an emergency insurance order. The order states that until August 18, 2008, your insurance policy cannot be cancelled or non-renewed as a result of filing a claim or not paying your premium, unless you request it.
We're following up this important decision to answer questions you may now have. If the following information doesn't address your concerns, please call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-PROGRESSIVE. We're here to help.
How will the emergency order affect my Progressive policy?
If you're not able to pay during this time, please call us, and we'll make sure your policy remains in effect through August 18, 2008. If you received a cancel notice because you were unable to make a payment on time due to the flooding, you will not be denied coverage by Progressive even if the cancellation date has passed. The order applies to all Progressive policies, including those covering automobiles, motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles and commercial autos.
What will happen if my policy is due to renew during this period?
We'll send you a renewal offer and bill as usual. If you want to renew your policy, you can pay the bill when you receive it, or you can wait and pay when the emergency order is lifted.
Does this mean I will get free insurance coverage during this period?
No. You will still be responsible for your insurance premium, but you will not need to pay for your coverage until the emergency order is lifted.
When will I have to pay?
Whether you're maintaining your coverage or renewing your policy, your payment will need to be received or postmarked by August 18, 2008 when the order is lifted. You may wish to still pay on time, if you're able, in order to avoid paying a larger sum later.
Will the order affect payments made by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)?
If you're signed up for EFT, we'll continue to withdraw your insurance payment from your bank account as usual, unless you ask us to stop. If we attempt to withdraw a payment and there are insufficient funds in your account, your policy will remain in effect as long as payment is received or postmarked by August 18, 2008. If our attempt to withdraw funds during the period covered by the order results in any penalties or fees for insufficient funds, please call us and we'll make sure that you’re not responsible for the fees.
